Just Keep Swimming

Hello!

Have been feeling like I've spent more time in the water than on land recently. Pool sessions on weekdays, beach training on Saturdays and ocean races on Sundays as a part of the Pittwater Ocean Swim Series. Newport was a dream - crystal clear water and gentle waves. Bilgola was a challenge - massive surf, big choppy swell and a shark!! Mona Vale was reasonable - clear warm water and the expected shore dump. Next up are the CanToo goal swims 'The Big and Little Swim' at Palm Beach, then Shark Island at Cronulla and finally the North Bondi Classic.

It has been tough, mentally and physically, but exciting and rewarding. Yesterday Robby from CanToo's head office reminded us of how lucky we are; to be swimming, splashing and out in the water, something many living with cancer don't have the ability to do. All funds raised go towards ground-breaking research and life-saving medical treatments for those who need it most.

Taking the Plunge

For the past 5 weeks I have started my ocean swim training with Can Too. We have swum twice weekly as a team, at West Pymble pool and Mona Vale beach, plus my own training sessions. It has been exciting, scary, nerve-racking, challenging and rewarding. I have always been a water baby, in the ocean any time I can - but setting the goal of a distance ocean swim in late January 2024 has been a different ball game. While being a personal goal, Can Too is much more than that. 

You'd be a lucky person to say cancer hasn't affected your life and the lives of those around you. In my case, my family has been tremendously lucky to access to life-saving medical support and treatment. 

Through programs like ocean swim training, The Can Too Foundation raises money to support innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. More specifically, the foundation funds early career cancer researchers whose work contributes to ground-breaking research and treatment that simply saves lives.
