THE RACE - a lesson well learnt

A great start at a fabulous location with a wonderful team!

All well to the 10km mark (and on pace) when the left calf gave out. In all stubbornness, walked on and, from under the Bridge, gained mind set to run to the finish line with the help of my Team Manager. Thank you Sam!

Lessons learnt:

  1. Never run on an injury.
  2. Training - 3 runs in a row too much.

Though different, what another great experience with Can Too.

Thank you to all those for supporting cancer research and me in this journey. A special thank you to my social media assistant and, of course, the team for eating all those protein balls.

Race Day Eve

Bib collected, legs rested and hydrated. Can I beat my previous 1 hour 54 minutes?

Torrential Rain & Detours

This Saturday we reached the 16km long run and long it was down to Coogee’s Trenerry Reserve and back. Usually this hilly run is enough however the detours (from the storm damage) turned this run into a killer. The breathtaking views made it bearable.

To provide an update on training, Saturday runs have taken us through spectacular views down to Mrs Macquarie Chair (14km), Bronte recovery run (8km) and down again to Rushcutters Bay this time via Birriga Road (14km).

On Wednesdays we have been enlightened on nutrition, physio tips and a podiatrist’s views on common injuries. The midweek drills have been challenging - looking forward to the next 5km benchmark.

Saturated by a drill session in torrential rain brought a stop to Pub Night. The Can Too spirit "Rain, Hail or Shine" certainly makes one feel alive!

12km Rozelle Run

Wednesday training went well to prepare us for our Saturday run. This Saturday, the pods got together for the 12km Bay Run at Rozelle. Felt great on the flat terrain until the 10km mark where the coach came and supported me. I kept my pace at 5.39 per kilometer, a result I am happy with. With the help of my daughter, we made and sold protein balls on the day to help my fundraising- we raised $74 dollars to cure cancer. Thanks team!

Pub Night + More!!

Last week was full on... On Wednesday, we had our first 5km time trials. In the last kilometre, I did 5:04 mins- 12 seconds faster than my first! Our reward was Pub Night!

Soon enough Saturday morning comes and we had our 10km run down to Rose Bay Still need to concur those hills!

Week 2 of Can Too!

It's week two and I'm feeling alive! On Wednesday, we did 6x 600m/200m recovery between sets followed by extensive workout on the core. Looking forward to my 6km run on Saturday - praying for rain so no more core.

I'm training with Can Too for Blackmores Sydney Running Festival Half Marathon!

I am training for an event with Can Too, a health promotion organisation that engages and inspires individuals and the community to achieve personal health, wellbeing and altruistic goals. 
 
Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events- including 10km, half-marathon and marathon runs; as well as ocean swims and triathlons.
 
In return, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2015, Can Too community is funding 14 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia.
