Follow my journey to becoming an ocean swimmer and donate to support cancer research and prevention with Can Too Foundation.
In 2022, less than a month after my 33rd birthday, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. What followed my diagnosis was surgeries, chemotherapy, a temporary stoma, complications and a lot of long hospital stays.
If I've spoken to you about my cancer journey, you've probably heard me joke that "having cancer is not as fun as you'd think."
The reality is that having cancer really sucks. It's hard and it's exhausting - not just for the person fighting the illness, but for the people that love them too.
1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This means that potentially someone you love may have to battle cancer, and that's a statistic that needs to change.
I would love a future where fewer people need to hear the words "you have cancer", and for those that do, the road to recovery is much smoother.
That's where the Can Too Foundation comes in!
After having my last surgery in February this year, I'm trying to bounce forward and rebuild my body after cancer. To help me do this, I've signed up to participate in the Can Too Foundation's ocean swimming program.
Starting from November, I'll be training with the Can Too team, with a goal of completing 1 - 2KM ocean swims in January and February.
In return for the wonderful training provided by the Can Too Foundation, I am raising valuable funds that go towards innovation in the prevention, care, and control of cancer. Since 2005, Can Too Foundation has trained over 18,000 participants and raised over $25,000,000 to invest in over 200 one-year cancer research grants.
