Melbourne 2.5km or 5km Long Swim Training

Done and Dusted

Hi everybody

Yay!!! i made it.  After all the hard effort training, I made it.  It is such a wonderful feeling knowing i completed 3 ocean swims in 5 weeks!!!  And all of them with personal bests!!!

My first swim was at the Williamstown Australia Day swim.  I swam the 2km event in 48Mins beating my previous time of 56min quite considerably.  The next event was the Jalna Big Bay. This swam from Port Melbourne, across the channel and into Williamstown. All up 3.2km. This was the greatest distance i had swam to date.  I was aiming to complete it in approx 1hr 15 mins.  Imagine my supprise when i crossed the line to see the clock still at 58mins. WOW!!!  The last swim was going to be the greatest challenge.  This was the Melbourne swim classic 5km event.  New max distance acheived. yes indeed. I finished the 5km swim in 2hr and 5mins. I think i was still recovering from the 3.2km swim 6 days previous.  But never the less i completed it.  To top it all off i can also that i swam in an event with Ky Hurst!!! Australian marathon swimmer and ironman.

All in all an awesome day.

Not far now...

Wow not far to go now.  Training has intensified as of Wednesday we are working at increasing our strength and stamina in order to be able to complete the 5km swim.

The majority of our training group also swam in the Australia Day Swim in Williamstown just recently.  What a great swim that was.  It was deceptively rough out at the back markers but we swam anyway.  I was over the moon to have completed a new personal best crossing the line in 48 mins and 50 seconds.  a whole 6 mins faster than last year.  This was a good warm up event.  but now i have also signed up to do the big bay swim, which goes from Port Melbourne across the chanel to Williamstown.  This is a 3.2km swim which will be a good step towards the 5km goal event.  But being only 6 days before the Melbourne Swim Classic i hope i recover enough...

Aiming higher

I am training for an event with Can Too, a non-profit program that matches fitness incentives with a good cause. After previously completing two 2km ocean swims with CanToo, I am now going to be participating in a 5km swim.

An estimated 128,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Australia this year, with that number set to rise to 150,000 by 2020.

1 in 2 Australian men and 1 in 3 Australian women will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.

With this greater challenge I aim to fundraise to greater heights. All of the money I raise goes to Cure Cancer Australia. All in the aim of finding the cure.

But i cant do it alone. I need all of your help. Any donation you can spare will be greatly appreciated. So please dig deep and together we can help bring an end to cancer.
